Mustang (BLM) Mares
A mustang in general terms is simply a feral American horse. Many mustang herds, while descended from Spanish horses, have been influenced by many other breeds and factors over the years, and can vary greatly in type. I use "BLM" (Bureau of Land Management) to refer to these. There are still isolated herds of Spanish Mustangs/Spanish Colonial horses that have been recognized and protected, such as Kiger or Pryor Mountain herds. When I have my models of these types pedigreed and available for s/d, I will list them on their own pages.
"Rangebred" means the horse was bred in the wild and its parents are not known. I will have more horses up later with known parents but for now, these rangebred horses are available for s/d. For breeding purposes, all rangebreds can be considered to be completely unrelated to each other. All rangebred Mustangs are from Northern Nevada unless otherwise noted.
Please note: Because of the possibility of OLWS (Overo Lethal White Syndrome) in real horses, I will not breed two horses carrying the frame gene. Frame on its own does not cause any disease in horses, but if a foal inherits frame from both parents (a 1 in 4 chance when breeding two frame carriers), it will not live more than a few days. All of my horses carrying frame are noted, and can be bred with any horse NOT carrying frame.
